This show reminded me that while I love being a homebody & #cookbookauthor who cooks and runs a boutique beeswax-coconut candle business @thesmittencollection, my extroverted performer side still finds her happy place behind a mic, entertaining people with a little boogie or two and making sure they have a good time!!! 🥰

Another glorious night at the theatre … this time Another glorious night at the theatre … this time for KIMBERLY AKIMBO by @pangdemoniumtheatre. 

A story about a 16 year old (going on 60) with a rare disorder that makes her age faster, it reminds us to cherish each day as if it’s our last and to never forget to nurture our inner child as we grow up — or  grow old, whether before our time or even IN our time. 

We see Kimberly having to be the adult in her dysfunctional family while trying to embrace the fun side of being a teen … a reminder for us all that no matter what challenges we face or how bleak the future may be, there is ALWAYS joy to be found in every moment and love, friendship and adventure to discover — as long as you are willing to take the risks!! 🥹♥️

Down the rabbit hole we went and wow what a mad te Down the rabbit hole we went and wow what a mad tea party we had at Cirque Alice with seats right in front of the stage!! 🤩 i was so nervous for all the acrobats performing death defying stunts right before our eyes … cos also like please don’t fall on my head! 😂 

As always, so nice to bump into familiar faces on gala night. We also discovered a new fave pre-theatre venue for drinks and a bite to eat — Roberta’s… a must try if you love chewy thin pizza. 🍕🍷

Did you know the human brain is NOT wired for joy but stress! That’s why happiness is a conscious choice we must make! 

Stress is our built-in survival mechanism — constantly assessing our surroundings for potential dangers and threats so we can make rational decisions and handle each situation wisely. 

But throw in fluctuating hormones in perimenopause, a tendency to over worry, a jam-packed schedule, demanding bosses or toxic environments that put us on edge …. and managing our cortisol and adrenaline can become more difficult, wearing us down, leading to #burnout.

For me, these 3 #stressbusters work their magic every time: 

🎵 Music: Boosts dopamine, your brain’s “feel-good” chemical. (Double the effects if you dance, triple if you sing along too!)

💊 Creatine (3–5g/day): Not just for post-workout recovery! Fuels your brain by helping regenerate ATP (cell energy) thus supporting focus + mood under stress. The bonus is it may even protect against the fog of sleep loss! 

🏋️ Strength training: aside from releasing tension and boosting endorphins, our “natural antidepressants”, building muscles help balance cortisol, reduces inflammation and improves our mental health. 

🧠 Ultimately, being calm is not the absence of stress. It’s knowing how to manage it better! And in these distressing times we need to be more aware and alert than ever about current affairs and politics WHILE managing how it impacts our mood and lives. 

🧠 Resilience, confidence and our capacity for joy increases when we learn how to cope with challenges head on with the right mindset and tools — not when we turn a blind eye to them.

[💥SAVE THIS RECIPE💥] I was today years old when i [💥SAVE THIS RECIPE💥] I was today years old when i discovered that miso paste and peanut butter are a match made in heaven. 🤩 Who knew? 😱

Creamy & Spicy Miso Peanut Butter Soba is SO EASY to make, cheap, super delish and nutritious too. 👩🏻‍🍳💋

Forget ordering takeout (it takes at least an hour to deliver these days and involves too much single-use plastics) and try this IG trendy soba recipe. 

Here’s my version below. Get creative and adjust the ingredients to taste and use whatever you have on hand! I dare say this can satisfy a laksa craving in a pinch AND with far less calories! 🥰

AIRFRYER TOFU
2 packets of tau kwa (firm tofu), diced
pat dry then drizzle olive oil
Season with salt, cayenne pepper & garlic powder
Coat with about 1 tbs corn starch for crunch
➡️ airfry at 200ºC/400ºF for 12 minutes

SOBA BOWL
1 packet buckwheat soba, 300g
raw watercress, beansprouts
airfried tofu
jammy egg, boiled for 6 mins
coriander & spring onions for garnish

CREAMY SPICY SOUP
½ tbs lao gan ma crispy chilli
1 tbs miso paste
2 tbs peanut butter
1 cube chicken stock
2 cups water, or as needed
1½ cups milk (or coconut milk/cream) 
fish sauce, to taste
ginger paste, chopped garlic
➡️ gently stir fry the garlic and ginger paste with the crispy chilli oil. No cooking oil needed! Add the miso and peanut butter and some water. Stir to dissolve. Add chicken stock cube and taste to decide if you want to add more miso or peanut butter or more water to dilute. Add milk last and fish sauce, to taste, as a final touch.

ENJOY!! 😋🍜
This meal feeds 4 for less than $15 for all the ingredients above, plus some pantry staples. 👍🏼 

Cooking Time: 30 min or less
Clean Up Time: 15 min

In a world of performative perfection and endless #perimenopause dos and don’ts (yes, alcohol is on that list 🙃), here’s your reminder to go easy on yourself. 

Today was a crappy day… and I’m not sure just how much of it I can blame on hormones because the state of the world is really upsetting. 

Devastating floods in Bali, protests in France, corruption & greed in governments everywhere, ceaseless gun violence in America, senseless wars and varying shades of questionable moral values where good and evil are turned upside down…. 

…. then to top it off this morning I had to deal with a work hiccup that delayed me an hour, then it rained, then there was noisy and disruptive construction everywhere… so when I missed my train stop on the way to the gym, that was my last straw!🤪

In that moment I could feel my annoyance skyrocket and I had to decide… give myself more anxiety by rushing to the gym for a rather pointless 30 minutes and then rush off to my hair appointment ... or sit down and catch my breath over something that felt good instead. 

I chose the latter with no guilt at all. Because quite honestly my #perimenopausal self could not handle any more.

So this is your sign to be kind to yourself (and to others), find joy in small moments — especially when the world feels like it is falling apart, then go home, love your neighbour and hold your nearest and dearest ever closer to you. 

These are trying times. 🥺

And if you ever find yourself rushing around like a headless chicken, remember, a missed gym session and one beer isn’t going to derail all your best efforts.

Batch cooked #chickenbreast in the @instantpotsingapore is our weekly go-to! You don’t even need to defrost the chicken. 

Here’s my recipe:
1kg frozen chicken breast 
2 cups water 
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar 
1 tablespoon salt
OPTIONAL: aromatics like black pepper, lime leaves, ginger, garlic, onions can add some depth & zing. 

➡️ pressure cook on high for 30 minutes, release and RAVE 🕺🏻 to your fave party song! 😂
🚨Just be sure not to burn yourself on the hot steam and that the steam shoots up into the air not into your cabinets or you’ll have a problem with clean up! 😂
✅ the safer way is to just wait for the pressure to release after 15 minutes or completely when the pin drops. 

➡️ Remove chicken from the pot, discard the water & shred with two forks! Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt & pepper to taste
➡️ allow to cool before refrigerating 
➡️ serve on grainbowls, salads, wraps, noodles or a side of vegetables 

There’s no excuse not to eat at home and lock in your macros with #batchcooking.

#Midlife really is a major turning point that shapes how our later years will look. 

No more playing catch-up on bad diets, lost sleep, or letting workouts slide just so we can meet deadlines at work. We don’t bounce back like we used to — which means self-care isn’t optional, it’s the foundation for everything.

Did you know, estrogen supports our brain health? During #perimenopause, as estrogen fluctuates and declines, our risk factors for conditions like Alzheimer’s can increase. After menopause, when estrogen drops, women’s risk of Alzheimer’s doubles compared to men’s. 😬😬😬

The good news? Nutrition, stress management, exercise and HRT can lower your risk! I used to work out for aesthetic reasons and now it’s to stay strong, sharp and mobile for as long as possible. 

Today’s workout
🔥 30 min intervals on the stationary bike
🔥 Full-body circuit (4 sets with minimal rest):
▪️Seated Leg Curls (12–15 reps)
Kettlebell Squats w/ Upright Row (10–12 reps)
▪️Kettlebell Deadlifts (12–15 reps)
▪️Lunges w/ Bicep Curl (R) + ▪️Shoulder Fly (L), 10–12 reps

🎯 GOAL: Currently, I am working on conditioning my body and maximizing my time by doing multiple exercises in one set. Once I’m ready, I’ll switch things up to focus more on strength-building with longer rests in between and heavier weights.

#throwback to 2011 to one of our epic radio parties called Must Drink Fridays where I would routinely & shamelessly steal every opportunity to sing as a full-time radio DJ. 😆

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I’d kept singing full-time instead 🤔… I did that with #CherryChocolateCandy, with some solo projects in musical theatre and bar gigs and while it was an extraordinary 8 years it was also incredibly stressful trying to make a living from it!! 😂😂😂 

The best part was getting to work with super talented people who have now become lifelong friends.

I’ve since learnt that i prefer not putting pressure on this passion of mine that finds joy in play. So I shall sing in the shower instead and use my other talents to pay the bills! 😂
